​My name is Andora Henson, also known as TheWritingMommy                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       I have been a freelance writer, author, and artist for many years but for a very long time, over 30 years, my primary job has been mom and wife. I worked part time as my first child grew but when he was 10 years old we adopted our first daughter and made the decision that I would become a stay at home (what a misnomer ) mom. A couple of years later we adopted our second daughter and not long after that moved to an even more rural location and became owners of cows, goats, bunnies, chickens, cats, dogs, and a host of wild critters. All of this was fodder for stories and laughter and imaginations. I tell you this because all of my art and books have a great deal to do with being a mom, or a daughter, or a sister, or a wife.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         They say "write what you know" and that is what I have done and continue to do as an author; I create from the feelings, emotions, knowledge, and longings of my life as a woman who has been or is one or all of those things; mother, daughter, sister, friend, wife, lover, woman. I write the scary, real, ugly stuff right along with the rest because all of it is what makes me who I am and makes each woman who she is.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          As a freelance writer and a ghostwriter I have written on subjects ranging from tattoos and gynecomastia to roofing and driveway construction. I've covered adoption, dating, and marriage as well as health, fitness, and medical office management. I've written blog posts, articles in glossy print magazines, online magazines, and newspapers as well as poetry for weddings, ad copy, business copy and presentations, to digital and print books both fiction and nonfiction. I have enjoyed writing as my children grew and look forward to it even more now that I have an "empty nest".                                                                                                                                                                                        As an artist I create a wide variety of mixed media creation. I love to use recycled material and make use of found objects. I love to take something that has outlived its use as one thing and give it life as another. Whether a sculpture of paper mache', an assemblage of found objects, or a mixed media canvas, I try to bring something real and meaningful into the piece.
